Arrived at Le Port on NE side of Reunion yesterday, rented a small SUV and all 7 of us climbed in and went exploring.

Funny the harbor master (obviously a very self important French bureaucrat) sent us 3 places in the harbor before we were allowed to tie up. I didn't talk to him but my Captain finally told him to get his shit together and make up his feeble mind. LOL That turned into a heated debate with Captain finally telling him that this was the poorest organized harbor he's been in in 40 years of sailing. That shut him up and we tied up to what looks like an old commercial dock. The regular marina just isn't built for a 125' vessel. The harbor is very irregularly shaped, all right angles but many places which are tight turns for my boat. I get pretty nervous so they Make me ( they prefer that I stay below) stay below when we are maneuvering in tight spaces. So far we have only ever just nudged a piling a while back in So. Africa and no damage, a testimate to my Captain's skill.

So after that drama our first stop was a bar where we all had a couple drinks while pouring over a tourist map We located and called another rental agency, located a larger Land Rover SUV and took back the smaller one. In the bar we saw several nice looking girls and my deck hands were telling me that they wanted me-LOL. Have to admit that a couple of them would be a very interesting tryst but I am concentrating on taking it easy for a few days. Then we stopped at a small cafe and had some lunch. I really enjoy the company of my crew, they are a light hearted and happy group and we kid each other a lot. I love to make fun of everyone including myself and usually have them laughing a lot of the time. 4 of them speak French so we are right a home with this community-though almost everyone speaks English as well as their native French.

We spent the rest of the day driving around inland seeing calderas, beautiful jungle countryside and several waterfalls. Headed back and I told them we'd eat out for dinner in order to give my Chef a break. Had a nice seafood dinner and they drank 5 bottles of wine-I Drove Back....they were acting like I might wreck but I fooled them and didn't drive in my normal "insane formula 1 driver" style.
