No googling....really...don't cheat!!!

Who do you think the top 5 are and in which order?

I'll give you one clue: The Dallas Cowboys are in there.
Now tell me where...and who (and where) the other 4 belong.
An extra point if you want to try and estimate the value of the team (not annual revenue, just the value)

DON'T CHEAT!!!!

New York Yankees
Manchester United

are 2 that immediately come to mind; other possibility Redskins, no guess on a 5th.

In order I would guess

Manchester United
Dallas Cowboys
NY Yankees
Washington Redskins

Los Angeles Lakers have to be on that list.

Nope. They don't even make the top ten.

DG...impressive!
all four correct. Your top 2 are in the correct order. ;)
Guess one more and the order of the last 3.....

Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods has got to be up there too, aren't they considered fanchises with all their endorsements. ;)

Part of this is a function of when/what list you are citing, but how about the NY Giants? (no, not the baseball team WTF, PJ, RK, DG, etc. followed as lads, but the football team)

Real Madrid....

I still go with the NYG.

I lot of this has to do with the "when" here -- currency swings alone have been huge $/Euro over the last year

Since Chesapeake Energy pays for everything totally out of hand or control, so with that data, it would not astonish me that did the same with the buying of the former Seattle Super Sonics...

The missing 5th is the Patriots!!!

Per Forbes (Jan 2009) the most valuable sports franchise in the World is :

Man Utd @$1.8 bn...followed by:

Cowboys @$1.6
Redskins @ $1.5
Pats @ $1.32
Yankees @ $1.3
Real Madrid @ $1.29
Arsenal @ $1.2
Giants @ $1.18
Jets @$1.17
Texans @$1.17

In 2002 (per Forbes) no pro-sports team was breaking the billion dollar mark. By 2008 24 teams were over that line.

Also, am I correct in thinking the Houston Texans are quite a new team? If so, that's some damn good branding they have there!
